The Meaning Behind Fifteen

Every one of Taylor's songs has a message and a meaning. In her song "fifteen" the message is very apparent. The song "fifteen" written by Swift has aspects some fifteen year old's deal with. From starting high school, making best friends and falling in love. It is written as if Taylor is reminiscing back on what she was like as a fifteen year old. For example, "But in your life you'll do things greater than dating the boy on the football team. I didn't know it at fifteen" (Swift). The song represents Swift telling herself at fifteen that life is so much more than first love and small towns. But at the age of fifteen it is hard to realize how insignificant they are. This song people can relate to, because everyone at one point will be in that time of transition. The song is trying to express to Swift’s younger fans to relax and sit back because in reality they are just "Fifteen".

Taylor gives back!

On May 3, 2010 tragedy struck Nashville Tennessee, "Muddy water poured over the banks of Nashville's swollen Cumberland River on Monday, flooding neighborhoods and parts of the historic heart of Music City after a destructive line of weekend storms killed 28 people in Tennessee, Mississippi and Kentucky" (associate 1). Nashville is the country music capital of the world and home to many country stars. In a T.V benefit hosted by Vince Gill and Keith Urban people had a chance to give back to the city, this included singer Taylor Swift. Taylor donated an astounding 500,000 dollars to Nashville that night. Her large donation clearly shows her love for her hometown,"It was the craziest thing that I’ve ever seen,” Swift said on the telethon.”I was at my house in Hendersonville; we were staring out the window, thinking it didn't seem like rain. It just seemed like something in a movie. It was really emotional for me because those are the streets I learned to drive on. People's houses are just ruined. It was so heartbreaking to see that in my town, the place that I call home, and the place that I feel most safe. I just send my love to my friends and neighbors who got hit harder than I did." (Finan 1). The large donation really shows Taylor's dedication to giving back to the community that made her famous.

Where has class gone in the music industry?

This year at the 2009 VMA's it became very apparent that manners and kind behavior have been eliminated from the music industry. From explicit lyrics and outrageous behavior the music industry is run on partying and money. The love and respect for music has been overpowered by the celebrity lifestyle. The music industry reached a new low at the 2009 Video Music Awards. Taylor Swift had just won the award for best female video and took the stage to make her acceptance speech. In the middle of her speech, famous bad boy rap star Kanye West crashed the stage. He then proceeded to take the microphone from Swift and say the following, "I'm sorry, but Beyoncé had one of the best videos of all time," (Rodriguez 1). He then leaves the stage and a stunned Taylor Swift. Swift then leaves the stage embarrassed, confused and upset. After the incident both fans and celebrities were appalled by Kanye's actions. Swift had major support from people in the music industry. Kanye West on the other hand was given the cold shoulder. Kanye's actions were not only rude and disrespectful to Miss Swift but also to the fans who voted for Swift. Everyone has opinions on who should win certain contests or awards. But who has the right to correct the common vote? Kanye lost a lot after his stage crashing. He lost endorsements, fans, money and a worldwide tour with Lady Gaga. It is sad that the music industry has come to this type of behavior. Some musicians wonder why people do not take them seriously; comments and actions like West's are the reason. Hopefully musicians and people and general can learn from the consequences of West's actions, because this behavior should not be accepted.

Taylor Swift New Music video for the song "Fearless"

Each song on her album Fearless was written by Taylor herself. Taylor writes songs biased on experiences in her life. She writes about first love, best friends, belonging and first heartbreak. Along with the CD Taylor is known for her creative music videos. Her videos depict the exact picture she was trying to portray in her songs. Fearless is a song written by Taylor Swift, in the music video for Fearless it is not a scripted music video. Instead the music video is real life footage of her Fearless tour. The music video shows all the aspects of concert. It also gives the fans a backstage pass to Taylor's "Fearless" tour. For instance it shows Taylor warming up for her concert and meeting with fans at a CD signing. The music video also shows real footage of Taylor singing the song Fearless for large sold out venues. This is a unique take on a music video. As a fan of the song I was not disappointed with the music video. I enjoyed getting a first hand view of Taylor's life as a musician on the road. Taylor has created many music videos, but this one is the most unique and real. Watch the music video and tell me what you think!
